It's amazing how time flies! It has been 3 weeks since I blogged, shame on me!!
Only one more day and January 2014 is already over. I had a lot of great things that kept me busy this month.
I went to CHA in Anaheim, experienced a wonderful post-CHA-retreat, came home sick, was in bed for 4 days (not so great) and then went to Paperworld in Frankfurt from where I returned Wednesday. I have loads to share and I will do it in separate posts.
Of course it would make sense to do first things first but circumstances make me post about something that happened somewhere in the middle of this month first.
After CHA I went on a lovely Art Retreat with 3 sweet, fun and very talented friends. We rented a house near Anaheim that we baptized "Art House" to spent a couple of days together, have fun and make art.
I will show and tell more about this retreat in a separate post but today all of us will be posting about one thing in particular. Our Art Journal Round Robin. Julie came up with this fun idea. We all started a page in our Art Journal, the clock was set on 15 minutes and after those 15 minutes we handed our art journals clockwise to the person next to us and then continued working on the same page in each others journals for another 15 minutes and so on until the journals returned back to their owners.
I had never done such thing before and I have to admit it scared me at the beginning to create in someone else's journal! The time frame was not helping either. I'm normally a slow worker, I think a lot about what I want to do and how. But that was not an option here. I really had to let go, step out of my comfort zone, stop thinking and just create... When I look at the results now I realize that I probably had the smallest share in all pages but I know that if I do this more often I will get faster and better at it!
I thought it was an amazing experience, seeing the pages come together, combining all our styles and techniques. I love that I can point out exactly who did what on each page because the colors or techniques we used are so characteristic to our separate styles.
Creating just for the sake of creating while listening to music and chatting with friends is so much fun and so relaxing! I LOVED it and it is definitely something I want to do more often!
Here are all of our pages in 4 steps. The first one is in my journal. I started with coloring the background with IZinks and added some stenciling and stamping:
Then Julie added a painted face and more stenciling:
Nat added texture using her wonderful new mixed media stamps and framed it all together:
And Jenn finished the page with book paper and writing.
The next one is Julie's art journal. She also started her page with painting the background and stenciling on top:
Nat added some more texture by stamping with acrylic paint:
Jenn added some more stenciling and the bold title. There's a fun story to this title which I will share in a later post. For now let's just day that the ladies found a great way to make fun of me :)
And finally I outlined the title and added stamps and the yellow/red "leafs".
The third page is Nat's. She started with a lot of colorful painting and stamping:
Then it went to Jenn who added the title which is another fun story I will share later.
My share were the stenciled "leafs on stems" and the little subtitle:
Julie finished the page by turning the leafs into flowers and adding the writing in white. This is definitely my favorite page!
And last but not least, here is Jenn's page. She started with applying white Enamel Accents through a stencil:
I added the color and some more stenciling:
Julie journaled and painted circles:
And finally Nat added the white accents and some more writing:
I was amazed that so much could be done in such a tiny little art journal :)
And here are all the end results together:
I love them all! I love the colors and the texture, but most of all I love the time spend together doing this, all of us feeling comfortable and confident enough to work in each others journals and having an awesome evening!
Now I just KNOW that you are dying to read and see how the other girls experienced this art round robin!
