Paperworld Frankfurt. A weekend filled with inspiration, meeting people, chatting, laughing, drinking lots of coffee, having dinner with lovely people, watching amazing artists at work, trying products, lots of hugs and happy faces, very short nights, discovering new and exciting things, trend watching, making plans and walking miles and miles. All of this in the sweet company of my lovely friend Marsha.
Let's not do to much writing, the pictures will tell most of it :)
Friday 30.1.2015 - a 7.5 hour train ride and some time for art journaling.
Saturday 31.1.2015 - First day of the show
At the ZIG Kuretake booth. Japanese drawing and painting, wow! Went back on Sunday afternoon to see the progress.
Creative World Trend Watching, devided into 3 sections: artistic, romantic and optimistic.
Artistic
Weaving, knotting, splodge, brush and spray painting, embroider (love the embroidered journals!!)
Romantic
Soft, natural, yarn, lace… (Does the technique used on the stool look familiar? If you are a Jumper it should ;))
Optimistic
Marbling, all kinds of tape and paper garlands
Honestly I didn't see that much new here, but hey… I'm not a trend expert :) Not saying that these things are not fun btw!
Next fun thing: Getting my name written in Japanese.
Amazing artist Brigitte Waldschmidt in the Art-Select booth demonstrating on a variety of Ampersand painting panels. Love her use of color.
Another fun thing in the Art-Select booth were the R&F pigment sticks. Very soft, high pigment oil bars. Beautiful! Wow! But not for me… they take weeks to dry.
And another amazing artist, Jenny Muncaster, demoing in the Pébéo booth using glass paint on canvas, so exciting! I want to try this!
Lots of fun products in the Pébéo booth.
Interesting texture in the Pentart Dekor booth. To bad that all the info is in Turkish.
In the Sizzix booth we met the lovely Paula Pascual and saw some wonderful projects (using the new Tim Holtz dies) created by Pete Hughes, who told us this was the first time he did mixed media projects like this. Pretty talented right?! (I WANT those dies BTW! :D)
Of course we also stopped by the WOW! Embossing booth to see sweet Tania and pick up the new catalogue and the beautiful "Essential Guide to Embossing" that Tania developed!
Saw a lot of fabric paints. Personally I was really intrigued by the Javana color blocker for fabric paint by Kreul. Love the way they used it in their examples.
So much fun to see artists at work everywhere and to come back later to see the progress!
It was lovely to meet up with this sweet girl Limor and chat for a while and hear her thoughts on the show after attending CHA only 2 weeks ago. Good to hear she loved Paperworld as much as we did :)
So much for day one. We saw so much and were so overwhelmed with everything that we couldn't sleep, of course :) But before we had time to recover we had to go in for day 2! :D
Sunday 1.2.2015 - second day of the show
We woke up in winter wonder land. How nice that there was a Messe Shuttle bringing us from the hotel straight to the entrance of the show!
One of our first stops today was at Posca, where their dutch account manager (who recognized me from last year :)) gave us a tour through their little museum filled with beautiful art. Unbelievable what can be done with "just" markers!!
Next was Montana. Lovely paints and markers too, definitely…
but what was really intriguing me were the spray cans that create marble and crackle. Ohw, love that!!
Or how about those different sized and shaped marker tips?? <3
A quick visit to The Crafter's Workshop booth to see Julie's (Balzer Designs) new stencils and some of her beautiful work.
Of course a visit to the Carabelle Studio booth!! Which I thought looked terrific!!
They displayed the stamp and stencil collection beautifully without distraction and had one wall entirely displaying the work of the DT, Marsha and little ol' me :)
We made some fun, exciting and for now very secret plans there, so stay tuned for some great news soon :D
We stopped by Dyan to see her do her magic using her new paints. Beautiful colors! And I think her idea of using them with a blending tool is just genius. Creates beautiful thin and sharp layers.
I got to try working with soap stone :) (photo by Marsha)
We met Vera and Marianne for lunch which was very nice and then went to see Ana (Finnabair) who was demonstrating her mixed media art basics at the Notions booth. I'm looking forward to play with some of her stuff, especially the light paste, mica flakes and micro beads :)
And here are some random other things I saw and liked. A lot of writing on porcelain, tins and so on, beautiful hand carved wood stamps, a color globe (Marsha and I both bought one) and more...
Of course we went back to the ZIG booth at the end of the day to see how the artists were doing. Wow, isn't that amazing? All those details! To bad that we were not there anymore at the end of the show to see the completely finished pieces!
So that was day 2… of course there was more, way more. I sometimes just forgot to take pictures. We had great company at dinner (thank you Sandra (from Scrappies München), Svetlana and Tania for 2 lovely evenings), met people for coffee and cake like Jesper from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L and Jeroen & Saskia from Scrapbookzolder (making more exciting plans :))… We also stopped by at the Craft Emotions and Crafter's Companion booth. And it was great! I enjoyed every minute of it!
Monday 2.2.2015 - going home
We booked the train back home at around 2 pm so we had some time to go into Frankfurt and do a little bit of (window)shopping, drink coffee and enjoy the city center.
And the very last picture of this adventure is from all the loveliness I was given to try out and experiment with. The only thing they forgot to give me was a bunch of time :)
As said… I had a great time, the only thing I might do different next time is go 3 days in stead of 2, although I'm not sure that I would survive, haha!
Now my head is full of ideas and you might see some of my test cases and experiments here on my blog in the next few weeks, so check back later if you are interested :)
Thank you for stopping by and if you made it until here… great job! :)
Happy weekend!
Love,
