Crew Member Wednesday With Karin

Hello! It's crew member Wednesday and today we have Karin with a set of gorgeous tags! Love, love, love the colors!!

I got inspired by the beautiful colors of nature and the falling leafs and therefore I decided to create something with one of Birgit's gorgeous leaf stamps!

I started with a gelprint out of my stash and cut it into two tags.

Then I stamped them with the "leaf" stamp.

The next thing I did was stamping the "leaf" on a sheet of paper and I colored them with ecoline markers.

I cut them out and glued them on the already stamped images on the tags.

And as a final touch I added some splashes of gold ecoline.

I love to doodle but sometimes it’s just hard to come up with new doodle ideas, and maybe you are not sure where to start! But I’ve found a perfect little & very easy solution for that! You can doodle over a stamp! Yes. That easy! Simply trace over and make a beautiful art journal page!

Here you can watch my video. The trick is to use a bit of the same color ink while stamping, as the background is. That way, you can hardly see the stamp, but your beautiful pencil or pen lines will stand out. I have used a bit darker magenta color so my white ink will look gorgeous!

Hello! It's Crew member Wednesday again!! 

Today Hermien is here with another set of beautiful cards. What a great idea of her to make the new trend fit her kind of projects!!!

Hi, it's Hermien here :)

It's almost impossible not to hear about the new trend in stamping: the ATCoins! The samples made me happy so I made some for BMMAC! Because I am not a person who loves to trade and collect I turned the first 3 coins into little cards –>what else ☺

I started by stamping and stencilling on a piece of watercolorpaper, added some extra paint and then punched out circles.

I wanted a little more color so I stamped a variety of stamps onto red painted paper and cut them out after which I applied them to the circles.

I used the A5 Circles Background to stamp a background on some cards and glued the ATCoins on top.

Crew Member Saturday With Andrea

Hello there and welcome to Crew Member Saturday! Can you believe it is already September, wow, time flies! First Saturday of the month so here's another guest designer post! 

Today we have Andrea who created some lovely colourful tags using lots of layers. And you know I love layers, right?! Also she did something that freaks out a lot of people but that I would totally do (and have done)! Check it out :)

Hi Andrea here!

I made these two tags by doing something that is quite terrifying: cutting up a perfectly good stamp!  While it was a scary move, I do believe in making products match whatever purpose YOU have in mind and that’s what I did with this project.

I started with a piece of Strathmore Mixed Media paper that I glued pieces of an old book page onto.  I also had some great Washi tape that I stuck on.

Next I slathered on layers of acrylic paint with a palette knife.

 

To keep the colors from being too out of control, I covered most of the page with a layer of white acrylic paint.

 

I sprayed on some acrylic ink in bright pink and turquoise and let it dry.

 

I cut two tag shapes out of my background page using a die-cutting machine and tag dies.

 

Using embossing ink, I stamped the tags with the lovely Background with Circles stamp, then I sprinkled white embossing powder on them and heat-set them.

 

And now the crazy part!  I took the fabulous Stitched Mixed Media Background stamp and cut it into strips!  I did this because I adore the patterns and designs and thought they’d look great in individual strips, too.  And I figured I could always stick them back together for the whole stamp look.

 

 

I chose a few of my freshly-cut “stamp strips” and stamped them onto my tags then heat-embossed them with black powder to make them stand out.  I also used an image from the I Heart Washi Tape stamp set.

 

I added a little square of patterned paper to reinforce the hole at the top of the tag and topped it off with a Christmas ornament hook.

 

To finish off my tags, I glued on some poetry sentiments that I cut out of an old book.

August already, time flies! In this post I’ll show you my second set of cards I made out of the same sheet of painted watercolour paper, see my previous post for the technique, very simple, less clean because I manage to spread paint all over, even únder my apron…arggg..

 

 

The pinky background was spoiled with this big flower, the‘awesome’tekst and some ripped washitape.

 

 

On the second card also only two stamps, those nice feathers and the same text..thats it! Hope you get inspired!

Crew Member Wednesday With Karen

Hi there! It's Crew Member Wednesday again and today we have Karen who is sharing a simple but fun way to create lovely journaling cards. I love how these turned out, clean and simple but beautiful!

Hi everyone! It’s time for another Crew Member Wednesday and I’m making these great little journaling cards which are perfect to add into your art journal, planner, diary… whatever you’d like really! I’m using a super easy masking technique as well to make a really lovely layered look.

 

I’m using the “Life is pretty awesome” stamp set and I picked out the middle sized flower and I cut down some card stock to 3” x 4” and I stamped the flower onto a post it note so that I would have a “mask” that I can easily reposition. My post it note had lines on it as it was the first ones I had to hand, you can use any one for this or even some paper if you don’t have a post it note.

 

 

I cut around the edges of the post it mask and set it to one side. I then took my staz on ink pad in black and stamped the image off the edge of my journaling card. I wanted to create a border like effect around the edges of my cards.

 

 

Once I had one image stamped I added my mask over the top and stamped again. This means that you can create the effect of the flowers being “layered” one behind the other.

 

 

I kept going right along the edge of the card and created some others, varying the direction and the pattern that I created.

 

 

I went in with my micron marker to add in some lines for my journaling to go on to. You can totally use a ruler for this part if you would like but I really liked the free hand, slightly squiggly lines that I drew for my cards.

 

 

I then went in with some of my watercolor crayons to add in some colors to the journaling cards that I had made. I kept it simple with a few light washes and layers. I left one blank so if I wanted to add in a different color to match a page I could!

 

 

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it inspires you to either make some cards of your own or give the masking technique a try!

Hello creatives,

It’s been a while since the last time I was on for a project, but here I am again. The last two times I made an Art journal Scrapbooking page. But this time I did an oldschool 12x12 Scrapbooking page. And this time I did a Scraplift. For people that are not familiar with this term, here’s a definition of the word scraplifting: “The act of taking someone else's scrapbook art and copying it or slightly modifying it into your own creation”. So that’s what I did. I took this Scrapbook page:

Crew Member Wednesday With Hermien

Hello! It's Crew member Wednesday!! 

Today Hermien is here with a lovely home decor project. How fun to have tea from such a nice, personalised tray!!

This time I stamped on a tray I bought for our new home. It was a bargain and after a while it was clear why: the bottom of the tray wasn't painted, it was a piece of paper. Spilled coffee/tea are not best friends ☺

But paper and stamps..hmmm!

I liked the distressed look, so I decided to make something in the same colors hoping to keep this distressed look.

So I randomly applied some gesso and then I  grabbed those pretty leaves masks and my bottle chalky gray paint.

And of course I used some of Birgit's stamps. I lightly stamped the images trying to keep it all a little distressed.

I finished the tray by adding two layers of gel medium hoping this will keep it all water (tea-coffee) proof!

 

Ready for some tea?

It's the first Saturday of the month, which means we have a guest crew member post today!

Hello again Birgit Fans ^_^ I'm just as excited if not MORE excited to share with you today as I was in January... I LOVE THIS PROJECT. First... here's a sneak peek ;) 

 

 

How delightful does that look??  I was already sold on the technique to make these amazing textures... but now I'm SUPER sold on how I USED them.

 

To start with I gathered some super sturdy water color paper and trimmed it down to a 3x4 inch size. I keep a stack of these babies close by for any sort of playing around or experimenting I might find myself wanting to do. I'm even doing my #the100dayproject challenge on them! They're small enough to work with quickly, while being big enough to DO things on. I used some Blick modeling paste and applied it in a VERY thick manner using my Catalyst tool. The layer was easily 1/8 inch thick. Then I heated the surface of the modeling paste thoroughly with a heat tool. I wanted the inside of the layer to remain pliable, while hardening the top layer. Once achieved, I took Birgit's Background with Circles XXL stamp and stamped it right into the paste. I did all 3 cards at once, because the stamp is SO BIG it easily stretched across all 3. Then I left the cards to dry. 

 

 

After the cards were completely cured I came in with some acrylic paint & had a play. I chose a gorgeous raspberry purple, a dark gray & a warm bone color. I applied the paint & heat dry. Then I brushed over the texture with some gesso. This technique highlights all of the raised surface of the rubber stamp... because I used the stamp in a relief type of application, the texture is actually the NEGATIVE space of the stamp. 

 

 

Then I stitched together some watercolor paper in an accordion style layout. I sewed 2 of the 3 modeling paste cards to the "covers" of the accordion... which yielded me a GORGEOUS little art journal! 

 

 

I realized the journal had a bit of "poof" to it, so I stitched a piece of muslin to the front & back. It ties on both sides to keep my little book perfectly closed. YAY! I can't wait to play inside this book... I also KNOW that the cover is not done enough for me... but it's such a fabulous starting off point.. I just can't even. I'm SO giddy!

Hi, it's Karin here!

Because I’m participating in the #31daysofgelprinting by Birgit Koopsen on Instagram, I have already a huge pile of gelliprints.  Therefore I decided to use one of these as a background for the cards I wanted to make. I stamped the tulips and the large flower on other prints, cut them out and glued them on the backgrounds. Finally I applied the cards on black cardstock.

The end result is two Clean & Simple cards.
